Privacy Policy

1. Who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy applies to the BeforeDrive Android application ("BeforeDrive", "the app"). BeforeDrive helps rental-car customers create a structured photographic record of a vehicle at pickup and return.

2. Data the app accesses

To provide its core features, the app may access or create the following information:

• rental details you enter, such as rental company, vehicle registration, pickup date and return date;
• photos you intentionally capture during pickup, return or optional damage close-ups;
• capture timestamps and cryptographic SHA-256 hashes used to identify the stored evidence files;
• device location at capture time only when location permission has been granted and location is available;
• local notification capability to remind you before the scheduled vehicle return.

3. Where your data is stored

Rental details, evidence photos and generated evidence files are stored locally on your device in app-controlled storage. BeforeDrive is designed without a BeforeDrive cloud account or cloud evidence store in its initial release.

4. Technical network services

BeforeDrive can contact public internet time services to obtain an independent time reference used as corroborating evidence. The current implementation may contact Cloudflare and Netnod NTP servers. These requests do not send your rental details, photos or GPS coordinates, but the network operator can ordinarily receive technical connection information such as your IP address.

When you generate an evidence pack, BeforeDrive may submit only the SHA-256 digest of the evidence manifest to public OpenTimestamps calendar services in order to obtain a timestamp proof. The manifest itself, your photos, rental details and GPS coordinates are not sent to those calendars. Availability of these external services is not guaranteed.

5. Data transmission and sharing

BeforeDrive does not automatically send your rental details, inspection photos or GPS location metadata to the developer. Evidence leaves the app when you choose to share or export it using Android's share functionality. When you share a file, the destination app or service you select processes that file under its own privacy terms.

6. Camera and location

Camera access is required for the core inspection workflow. Location metadata is optional and is not required to complete an inspection. The app does not use background location tracking.

7. Notifications

BeforeDrive can schedule a local reminder before a rental return. Notification scheduling is performed on the device. The app does not use notifications for advertising.

8. Purchases

If the lifetime unlock is offered through Google Play, the purchase is processed by Google Play. BeforeDrive does not receive or store your payment-card number. Google Play may process purchase and account information under Google's own terms and privacy policy. BeforeDrive uses only the purchase status needed to determine whether the app is unlocked.

9. Analytics, advertising and tracking

The initial release does not include advertising SDKs, behavioural analytics, cross-app tracking or the sale of user data.

10. Retention and deletion

Your locally stored rental evidence remains on the device until you remove it through the app where that function is available, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Files you export or share are outside BeforeDrive's control and must be deleted from their destination separately.

11. Security

BeforeDrive limits data handling by keeping core evidence on-device and disabling Android application backup for app evidence. No software can guarantee absolute security, so you should protect access to your device and exported evidence files.

12. Children's privacy

BeforeDrive is a utility for people arranging or using vehicle rentals and is not directed to children. The app does not intentionally create profiles of children or collect information for advertising.

13. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app's features or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are published.
